The Author

Fiona Curtis and her husband, Mark, moved to Compton in 1999 and spent 17 happy years at Wistaria Cottage before moving to the Suffolk coast in 2017. During that time, she became deeply engaged in village life after creating the first village website. She acquired an extensive collection of artefacts pertaining to Compton’s history after the death of village historian Mike Palmer. An appeal to wider Compton led to the expansion of this collection, which in turn led to the production of this book.

This book was compiled to share the numerous photographs, memorabilia, and other ephemera collected by residents, past and present. Pictures of places, people, and events taken during the time the writer lived in Compton contrast with those taken during the 19th and 20th centuries. Whether a resident, past resident, visitor, or history enthusiast, this book aims to inform as well as entertain.
